2. Proposal for EPF Congress from EPF Executive

Proposal: Member Nations must state if they are taking part/not taking part in all Championships. Notice of attendance/non-attendance must be reported to the General Secretary and Host/Organiser at least 21 days prior to the start of each championship. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in offending nations being fined the sum of 50DM. This fine must be paid before the Technical Meeting at the next Championships.
Reason: In recent years organisers have been incurred extra expenses and administrative duties due to the late arrival/non-arrival of teams previously stated to be participating in a Championships. Such behavior places an unnecessary additional burden upon the organisers. It is a matter of common courtesy for member nations to acknowledge Championship Invitations whether or not they intend to participate.

4. Other Business

The EPF secretary would like to thank John Inzer and Peter Thorn who sponsored the EPF in 1997. Without their financial support the EPF would have been unable to print the booklet commerating its 20 year anniverary. In addition, the promoter of the European Menīs Open was sponsored by Inzer, and in 1997 all European Record certificates were paid for by Peter Thorn/Inzer. There are a number of companies making money selling powerlifting equipment, but only Inzer and BSA have helped directly finance the EPF (Eleiko provided a free bar in 1995).

Often the EPF Secretary is asked to send an invoice for the membership fee, which should not be required as the EPF By-Laws clearly state the amount payable and the due date. In addition, the EPF secretary is unpaid (everything is done in his free time), and issuing invoices constituetes and unneceassry addition to his workload. Reminders will be send out to the following nations who have not paid their 1998 membership fees: IRE, LUX, HUN, POL, SLK, ESP, SWE, LIT, EST, BUL, POR, BLR. The fee is now 365DM, including the fine for late payment.

A lifter who has worked or lived for longer than two years in a country is allowed to represent the country's federation in international competition. If the lifter has previously represented another country, its federation must declare the lifter free to lift for the new country. See By-Laws 5.08 part 4.

The Invitation for the Juniors European is now on the EPF website, and will be distributed with the March EPF Info. The Junior World Championships will be held in Kaposvar south of Budapest.

Due to the Soccer World Cup, the Masters European Championships have been moved to 21-26 July, in Pribra, 60km South-West of Praha. Details will be published with the April EPF Info.

The EPF Secretary would like to mention John Moody, who has decided to resign from all the offices he holds, including those at the EPF. In common with the EPF President, the Secretary feels that not only is he losing a colleague, but a friend who is only as far away as the next telephone.
