1. 1998 European Congress
The 1998 EPF Congress took place in a very friedly atmosphere with twelve
nations present. Arnulf Wahlstrom, the EPF President, welcomed all
participants and opened the Congress. His address was unanimously
accepted, as were the minutes of the last congress and all associated
reports.
Klaus Brostrom (DEN) was elected unopposed as EPF Vice President
until the next congress. Myriam Bysselot (BEL) as was appointed Chairman
of the EPF Technical Committee until the next congress having won seven
votes to John Stephenson's five.
The following proposals were accepted:
- By-Laws 5.03d: Member nations must explicitly state if they
are participating/not participating in each European Championships. Notice
of attendance/non-attendance must be reported to the EPF General secretary
and Championshp Organiser not later than 21 days prior to the start of
each Championships. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in
offending nations being fined the sum of 50DM. This it must be paid before
competing in the next championships. NOTE: this by-law comes into effect
with the publication of this EPF Info. If a nation nominates too late or
does not give notive of non-participation 21 days prior to a
championships, it will be fined 50DM. the first championships this applies
to will be the Bench Press Masters.
- By-Laws 3.02a: The annual national affiliation fee will
be increased to 400DM from 1999.
- EPF Hall of Fame: Lifters Dagmar Wang (AUT) and Kenneth Mattson
(SWE) Sweden were elected to the EPF Hall of fame, together with official
George Legget (GBR). At the Men's European Championships Banquet, John
Moody was presented with a special award, honouring his lifelong work for
Powerlifting and the EPF.
- EPF Calendar: The EPF calendar up until 2001 has been accepted
and will be published on both the EPF and IPF websites.
2. Other Business
The following nations have yet to pay the 1998 EPF membership fee: Spain,
Portugal and Belarus. These nations must pay 425DM before the end of June,
or they will be suspended according to the EPF By-Laws.
